Our Population Has Grown!

May 25,2011
I'm back and I have some good news. Drumroll please...we have a baby birth! It is very exciting. I'm so exited to have some new friends. But the babies are so small. It's going to take a long time for them to grow. The noisy kids are putting the mother in a seperate basin. They are feeding them fish food and dry cat food. I am going to throw a party for the mama. I'm going to send her a card with a note in it that says,Let's celebrate the birth you gave. I'm hoping you do take good of them and make sure they are ok." I'm also going to give the babies a little food. Well that's it for today.. peace!

Sincerely,
Caroline the Crayfish

Hi!  I'm back.  I have a big announcement!  My friend is having babies!  We are so happy to have new brothers and sisters to welcome into our families.  A few weeks ago we got new homes.  I have one too.  I also have slumber parties in my home. My friends and I just love our new homes.  Bye!

Love,
Kista the Crayfish

I belong to a new group.  I am acting mean.  I want my old group!  I'm sure I'm never going to get used to them.  Well...I might just get used to it, but I'm probably not going to.  I'm only 1% sure.  The students say that I do the "H".  ?????? I don't even know what that means.  ??????  The other good thing is that they know I am defending myself.  I think that the students might be predators!  Bye!  Get away from me!  (PS I have long antennas.)

Sincerely,
Crazy the Crayfish

Hiding Out in Our New Homes!

5-18-11

Hi!  This is Crabby the Crayfish again.  The class just got me these new homes, and they are kinda like half of a cup.  I feel really safe in my new home...all snuggled up.  Tuesday they put a red dot on my friend and not anything on me.  Plus I kinda wonder what those red dots are on my friend's back.  Well, bye, see you next time!

Yahoo! I finally got a new hideout.  It is dark and fun. I love it.  Kids are still writing observations about me, but I don't care because I have a new home. Kids are finally calming down on getting us.  They still fight over being the Getter though.  My friends are being picked up and fed, just like me. They marked us so they will know who is who.  So many kids are messing around with us, but we still have care.  The kids are being nice to us because they aren't picking us up that much, and they are petting us nicely. My friend Crabby was doing the H today.  The H is is when we stick our pincers up.  He was defending himself.  Well, that's it for today!  Bye!

I'm feeling very sick.  I'm hungry.  I will only move my antennae, and my claw and my leg.  I am very sad that I wasn't able to move into a new house.  All of my friends took over their homes, and I just live in a small little place between the Triangle House and the Circle House.  There aren't many pebbles there either.  My pincer is red and it hurts because it is swollen.  My tail has been tucked in for days.  I used to be one of the strongest and fastest crayfish of all. No look at me!  I am about to die. :(

Barely Hang In There,
CrabbyII the Crayfish (JAM)

*** The above entry was written as they watched their crayfish cling onto life.  I asked them to think about what he was feeling.  :) JAM did a great job of conveying the moment!

May 13, 2011 by Jordan

Hi, I'm back!  Today I got a friend to play with.  His name was Crazy.  The kids were really gentle with me this time.  Crazy and I had a great time together.  The food was still really yummy.  It was really loud this morning. I've been hearing that my friend, Cassy, died.  It's really sad when a friend dies.  When I play with the kids, they are really gentle with me because my other friend's leg is broken, and they don't want mine broken.  I really love this class because they're really nice.  Today was the best day ever!  I loved it and I hope you loved reading about it too!

Sincerely,
Crabby

Meet Our Crayfish....Day 2 in Team Bond

Here are some entries from our first day observing the crayfish.  Each child was able to create a name for his/her crayfish, using alliteration (something we just emphasized during our poetry unit.)

      May 12, 2011

Hi!  I'm Caroline the Crayfish.  I came here yesterday.  I arrived at Team Bond at about 2:50 PM.  It was almost the end of the day, and the whole class crowded me and my friends. We were split up into bins becuase there were bigger spaces to swim, as we were all together in a small container when we were shipped to Glengary Elementary.  I eat dry cat food that sinks to the bottom of the bin.  We have a hard shell and our color is brown. How do you know who the female crayfish are?  The female is small and the males are big. We have pincers to protect ourselves.  Males have big pincers. The femals have brown pincers.  We have 8 legs adn 2 antenae. We are ver cool water animals. We like dark places.  That's why you don't see us that much in the day.  Well...that's all everyone!  Bye! (CR)

Hi!  I'm Crayfee the Crayfish.  I got here yesterday.  I was wanting to get to the school all day yesterday.  My habitat is really nice and comfortable.  Lots of kids pick me up.  I know some of their names already.  I eat cat food. I eat really fast.  I love the food they give me....yummy! One of my friends as lost a pincer.  I used to live in a river but not anymore.  Someone got me and put me in this habitat.  I like this habitat more...it's way more safer thaqn being out there in the wild!  (TG)

Hi! I'm Crabby the Crayfish.  I arrived in Team Bond a day ago.  The kids crowded around me adn my friends.  We were very, VERY scared to be in this new classroom.  We got transferred into our basins by a couple of kids.  When we got fed the next day, me and my friends were separated into different basins,  so Team Bond science groups could observe us.  They kept on picking me up.  Luckily I was with one of my friends. She kept on wiggling and squirming so she could get put down.  Me and my friend were not very hungry so we didn't eat.  Hopefully all my other friends did fine too!  (JAM)

Hi1  I'm Krista the Crayfish.  I am eating my breakfast right now...so put me down!  Just kidding.  It does not hurt me when I get picked up because I have a hard shell.  I am in a separate basin to eat my breakfast. I am having so much fun with my friends here in room 10 with Team Bond!  (TW)

Hi! I'm Cassidy the Crayfish.  I arrived at Team Bond yesterday.  It's a joy here!  I like the part when they fed me cat food. The kids stared at my brown pincers, and then they picked me up and looked around me. It was a bit scary.  Then I rested a little bit.  Then I decided to climb around and took a break. I got a little thirsty so I drank some.  When the kids were studying me I bent my tail and kept it tucked under. Bye now!  (CJ)

Hi!  I'm Crabby the Crayfish. I arrived in a classroom at the end of the day yesterday.  We crayfish eat dry cat food.  I can walk backwards.  We have 8 legs and 2 pincers.  In the morning we hide and at night we are active. I forgot to mention, my friend, Chris, lost a pincer.  We got moved into a basin...that is our habitat.  (KB)
